Below is information pertaining to the accountability status of student organizations at the University of Iowa between August 2019 and July 2020. Organizations still completing a sanction from the prior academic year are included in this summary.

Chinese Students and Scholars Other Violative Conduct April 2020 Case investigated and a cease and desist letter regarding distribution of medicinal item in care kits was sent to the organization.  
Chi Omega Fraternity and Sorority Life Social Events Policy Fall 2019 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions completed.
Delta Chi Tailgate Party, Violation of the Moratorium October 2018 Removal of Status as a Registered Student Organization at the University of Iowa. This will remain in effect for a minimum of four academic years. The chapter was previously placed on deferred suspension by the University of Iowa on March 9, 2018 through the completion of the 2020 spring semester. Sanction ongoing.
Muslim Student Association Financial Management & Reporting September 2019 Case investigated and dismissed via University of Iowa Discipline of Student Organizations process.  
Phi Delta Theta Unregistered Social Event with Alcohol January 2020 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Removal of Status as a Registered Student Organization at the University of Iowa through December 17, 2021. Once chapter is eligible for registration again, it will be on Disciplinary Probation for two concurrent semesters. Sanction ongoing.
Phi Delta Theta Tailgate Party, Violation of the Moratorium October 2018 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • The chapter is on deferred suspension through fall semester 2020.
  • The chapter must communicate about its sanctions and expectations and support for culture change to alumni by February 15, 2019.
  • The chapter must assemble a full advisory board of a minimum of 4 members by May 15, 2019.
  • The chapter facility will be 100% alcohol free through fall semester 2020.
  • The live-in house director must be employed by the house corporation board, not the chapter.
  • The chapter will host a chapter retreat for 90% of the members focused on goal setting with culture change as an outcome (by September 1, 2019).
  • The chapter has restrictions in participation on social events, FSL weekend, homecoming events, recreational services sponsored activities, hosting a philanthropy, or providing community service until spring of 2021.
  • The chapter will participate in additional substance use/abuse education such as Red Watch Band training, Alcohol E checkup To Go, and an in-person educational intervention (designed and implemented spring of 2019).
  • The chapter is not allowed to recruit new members without approval of their recruitment plan by the IFC Advisor and Phi Delta Theta?s Director of Growth.
  • The chapter?s leadership must fully participate in community self-governance by attending all required meetings, educational programs such as back the school workshop for Presidents, Risk Management 101, Impact, Phired Up, Impact, Launch, the FSL leadership class, the IFC Summit, New Member Day, etc.
  • Chapter leadership will engage in regular meetings with FSL staff.
  • The chapter must be represented in the Alternative Service and Hawkeye Service Teams course (CSIL taught three credit-hour course) in the 2018 spring semester and 2020 spring semester.
  • Chapter leaders will fully attend all Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity leadership opportunities including President?s training, New Member Educator training, workshops, conferences, etc. during the deferred suspension.
  • The chapter will receive additional staff support from the international organization, will be supervised closely during recruitment, and will participate as a pilot chapter in the New Member Program.
  • The chapter will be subject to a membership review (conducted by the international organization, not later than April 15, 2019) and a comprehensive, multi-phase, chapter development program.
  • The chapter will ensure all members complete bystander training prescribed by Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity.

Phi Kappa Psi Unregistered Social Event August 2019 Found responsible by the IFC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Social probation (Limited social events with alcohol) through spring semester 2020 or until other sanctions are completed.
  • Red Watch training required for 90% of chapter members.
  • Required to hold members accountable internally for committing the violation and report this information to IFC Judicial Board.
  • Co-sponsor, with several other organizations, an expert risk management speaker.
Interim Suspension of social activities lifted. Sanction complete is ongoing.
Pi Beta Phi Arrest & Citation Policy, Non-Compliance Fall 2019 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions completed.

Sigma Chi Unregistered Social Event March 2020 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • Disciplinary Probation through May 14, 2021.
  • The chapter must engage in a high-impact educational opportunity with its members regarding member responsibility, health and safety, risk management, and applicable University of Iowa, Sigma Chi, and UI Interfraternity Council policies and expectations by October 15, 2020.

Sigma Chi Unregistered Social Event October 2019 Found responsible by the IFC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Social probation (Limited social events with alcohol) through spring semester 2020 or until other sanctions are completed.
