Below is information pertaining to the accountability of student organization at the University of Iowa for the July 2018-June 2019 academic year. Sanctions assigned during a prior academic year that continued into 2018-19 are included on this summary.

  • Chapter leadership must meet with FSL staff to review all procedures of having alcohol at an event by September 1, 2018.
  • All required chapter leaders must attend Risk Management 101 in the fall.
  • The chapter must communicate with their advisory/corporation board and Acacia alumni of the changing policies at the University of Iowa with respect to social events by September 15, 2018.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Hazing April 2019 Deferred judgment issued by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process  
Alpha Xi Delta Arrest & Citation Policy, Non-Compliance Fall 2018 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Host an educational discussing the impacts of arrests and citations
  • Members must attend 2 mixers before attending an alcoholic event

Beta Theta Pi Tailgate Party, Violation of the Moratorium October 2018 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:

Chi Omega Alcohol at pregame, Violation of the Moratorium April 2018 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Chapter will only be allowed to host one (1) event this semester with alcohol in accordance to the Pilot Program, rather than the allotted three. No limit is placed on non-alcoholic events, however any that are held must meet additional standards for risk management.
  • Chapter must update and implement its risk management procedures after consulting with PHC officers and FSL staff.
  • Chi Omega to hold a retreat/workshop with key officers to focus on identifying the top risk management issues for the chapter and creating a strategic plan to act internally on them.
  • Chapter must develop a streamlined system of accountability for individual risk management issues.
Sanctions were completed by end of fall semester 2018.
Delta Chi Tailgate Party, Violation of the Moratorium October 2018 Removal of Status as a Registered Student Organization at the University of Iowa. This will remain in effect for a minimum of four academic years. The chapter was previously placed on deferred suspension by the University of Iowa on March 9, 2018 through the completion of the 2020 spring semester.  
Delta Chi Hazing, Misconduct on Organizational Code of Student Life, Rules D.26 ? Hazing, 3. - Alcohol, 9. Other violative conduct, March 2018 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • The chapter is on deferred suspension through spring semester 2020.
  • The chapter must communicate about its sanctions and expectations and support for culture change to alumni by May 1, 2018.
  • The chapter must assemble a full advisory board of 3-5 members by August 1, 2018.
  • The chapter facility will be 100% alcohol free through spring semester 2020.
  • The chapter is not allowed to participate in social events, recreational services sponsored activities, host a philanthropy, or provide community service until spring 2019.
  • The chapter is not allowed to recruit new members without approval of their recruitment plan by Division of Student Life staff.
  • Delta Chi leadership must fully participate in community self-governance by attending all required meetings, educational programs such as back the school workshop for Presidents, Risk Management 101, Impact, Phired Up, Impact, Launch, the FSL leadership class, etc.
  • The chapter must participate in an alcohol and other drug educational intervention (90% of members attending) by May 1, 2018.
  • The chapter must co-host, with the IFC, a hazing educational for the chapter (90%) and members of the IFC community no later than October 1, 2018.
  • The chapter's new members must attend the IFC's, New Member Day program
  • The chapter must meet with Risk Management Expert, Kim Novak, during her campus visit (August 2018).
  • Chapter leaders will fully attend Delta Chi International's leadership opportunities including workshops, conferences, etc. during the deferred suspension.
 
Delta Chi Unregistered Social Event with Alcohol January 2018 Found responsible by the IFC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Co-Host/sponsor an educational program for the FSL community with a well-known risk management expert.
  • Delta Chi must participate in an additional chapter remediation (i.e. extensive educational/consulting program) in conjunction with the speaker utilized in the first sanction with a minimum of 90% of all members in attendance.
  • Delta Chi will remain on a moratorium of social events with alcohol for six months after the moratorium in the fraternity/sorority community is lifted.
 
Delta Gamma Arrest & Citation Policy, Non-Compliance Fall 2018 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Create an operation plan for executive board in the event of arrests and/or citations
 
Delta Gamma Alcohol at Pregame, violation of Enforcement Procedures by executive board, violation of Moratorium April 2018 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Executive board hold a retreat prior August 20, 2018 with a special focus on position responsibilities, policy review, development of risk management procedures, and additional education on risk management.
  • Present Risk Management 101 at chapter meeting by September 30, 2018.
  • Before the chapter's next event, whether alcohol is present or not, chapter leadership must meet with PHC VP of Risk Reduction and Management to discuss an overall risk management plan. In addition, a Panhellenic officer must attend a portion of the chapter meeting before the event and make sure all rules and expectations are covered.
  • Chapter must meet with Risk Management Expert, Kim Novak, during campus visit (August 2018).
  • All chapter officers should attend all mandatory programming for the fall semester, including back to school workshop for Presidents, Risk Management 101, Impact, Phired Up, etc.
  • When the University of Iowa Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council Moratorium is lifted, the chapter will remain on a moratorium for an extended 6 months or until Fall Semester 2018 is completed, whichever comes first ? ineligible to host events with alcohol.

Delta Sigma Theta Code of Student Life, Rules D.26 ? Hazing, 10. Failure to Observe Policies, May 2018 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • Disciplinary Probation for a period of three semesters, through the completion of the 2019 fall semester.
  • Leadership of the chapter will meet regularly (no less than monthly) with Fraternity & Sorority Life staff during the Disciplinary Probation.
  • The chapter will collaborate with FSL staff to provide an educational program for the chapter, and other UI NPHC organizations on hazing in NPHC Organizations before the chapter is allowed to participate in intake again or by December 1, 2018, whichever comes first.
  • The chapter. will collaborate with FSL and Office of Student Conduct staff, the chapter advisor, and national organization's leadership (state coordinator, regional director, etc.) to thoroughly review the membership intake process.
  • During disciplinary probation, additional supervision of the chapter during the intake process must be in place beyond that of the Chapter Advisor and the State Coordinator. This should include, the Regional Director's (or her designee) attendance (physically or virtually) at many events.
  • Delta chapter leaders must be represented in the Current Issues and Leadership in Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL instructed three credit-hour course) in the 2019 spring semester. The chapter President must attend LAUNCH (annual leadership retreat for chapter presidents and council officers) in the 2019 spring semester and at IMPACT Leadership Institute in the fall 2018 semester

Gamma Rho Lambda Hazing November 2018 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • The chapter must conduct a thorough review of the hazing policies with each member of the chapter on an annual basis.
  • The chapter must coordinate an educational program designed for the entire chapter on communication, relationships, and group development.
  • The chapter must document its membership recruitment, new member education, and initiation week activities and must review it with key UI and national organization officials.
  • The chapter leadership must present a mini-educational program to the Multicultural Greek Council.
  • The chapter must abide by all directives and sanctions prescribed by the national organization.

  • The chapter must participate in an additional chapter remediation (i.e. extensive educational/consulting program) in conjunction with the speaker utilized in the first sanction with a minimum of 90% of all members in attendance.

  • Prior to planning another social event with alcohol, the chapter must plan and event without alcohol following all the procedures for an event with alcohol as a ?practice event? (no later than December 2019).
  • The chapter risk manager must meet with IFC VP of Risk Reduction and Management prior to planning additional chapter social events.

  • The chapter must assemble a full advisory board of a minimum of 4 members by May 15, 2019.
  • The chapter facility will be 100% alcohol free through fall semester 2019.
  • The live-in house director must be employed by the house corporation board, not the chapter.
  • The chapter will host a chapter retreat for 90% of the members focused on goal setting with culture change as an outcome (by September 1, 2019).
  • The chapter has restrictions in participation on social events during the probation period.
  • The chapter will participate in additional substance use/abuse education such as Red Watch Band training, Alcohol Echeckup To Go, and an in-person educational intervention (designed and implemented spring of 2019).
  • The chapter's leadership must fully participate in community self-governance by attending all required meetings, educational programs such as the back to school workshop for Presidents, Risk Management 101, Impact, Impact, Launch, the FSL leadership class, the IFC Summit, New Member Day, etc.
  • Chapter leadership will engage in regular meetings with FSL staff.
  • The chapter must be represented in the Alternative Service and Hawkeye Service Teams course (CSIL taught three credit-hour course) in the 2019 spring semester and 2020 spring semester.
  • The chapter will receive additional staff support from the international organization.

Water Polo Club (Men's) Alcohol and Other Violative Conduct March 2019 Found responsible by the University of Iowa through the Discipline of Student Organizations process. Sanctions include:
  • Disciplinary Probation through December 20, 2019.
  • Educational meeting with Recreational Services staff to review policies and risk management.
  • 90% of club members must complete Alcohol Echeckup To Go and host an organization follow up with Student Health & Wellness.
 
Zeta Beta Tau Tailgate Party, Violation of the Moratorium October 2018 Found responsible by the Interfraternity Council Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • The chapter must have 50% of chapter members participate in Red Watch Band training.
  • Chapter leadership will engage in regular meetings with FSL staff.
  • The chapter's leadership must fully participate in community self-governance by attending all required meetings, educational programs such as the back to school workshop for Presidents, Risk Management 101, Impact, Impact, Launch, the FSL leadership class, the IFC Summit, New Member Day, etc.
  • The chapter may host one alcohol free social event during probation period.
 
Zeta Tau Alpha Arrest & Citation Policy, Non-Compliance Fall 2018 Found responsible by the PHC Judicial Board. Sanctions include:
  • Host an educational program discussing the impact of arrests and citations
  • Members must attend 2 mixers before attending an alcoholic event
